Celebrating Kathryn McLean's 15 Years of Service

We were proud to celebrate a major Zag milestone for Kathryn McLean at our recent annual company conference – 15 years of outstanding service!  

Kathryn's time at Zag

Kathryn worked for a Zag (formerly Intelligroup) customer before she joined in 2004 as a Senior HCM Consultant. It was Kathryn’s first time in a consulting position, but she took to consulting like a duck to water and hasn’t looked back.

After her first year working on the Telecom Human Resource Information System (HRIS) project, Kathryn consulted across many customers in a variety of different positions, including Security Consultant and FI Consultant – go figure! It was clear that Kathryn could achieve anything she put her mind to and was a talented, valued team member. Testament to this, in 2008 Kathryn was promoted to a Solution Architect position.

In 2013 Kathryn took on the new management position of Human Capital Management (HCM) Team Lead and hired four new people, doubling the team’s size, to meet growing demand in the HCM space. With Kathryn’s leadership, the team delivered amazing implementations for our New Zealand customers, all critical HR/ Pay projects, and gained a great reputation in the New Zealand market.

Kathryn stepped into the innovation team as HCM Product Manager in 2015 to focus on developing the team’s IP. She moved into the Customer Solutions team in 2018, still as the HCM Product Manager but also as an Enterprise Architect, designing HR solutions. Over the last two years she has concentrated on SuccessFactors and doing massive amounts of pre-sales work with success… and there is more to come!

Down memory lane

One of Kathryn’s fondest memory relates to the Auckland Council project where half of Zag were involved in consolidating 11 local government entities into one. Many Wellingtonians travelled to Auckland every week, giving people the opportunity to bond and build their work and personal relationships. Kathryn, acting as Functional Consultant as well as the Cutover Manager, recalls that the whole team performed a miracle on the project. They had a hard date when the system MUST be live, which put the team under a lot of pressure, and yet they remained a tight unit and everyone really looked after each other.

Achievements and contributions

Aside from the Auckland Council project, Kathryn sees the Inland Revenue SAP HCM Payroll go-live as one of her biggest achievements. She was the lone Zagger on the project and as Cutover Manager had to navigate the murky waters of Change Management with the customer and other parties involved. This was a key learning exercise in her career and one of the most rewarding experiences. In recent years, Kathryn has been working with one of our public services clients on an NZ wide HR mobility project and roll-out – with good success and ongoing social benefit.

Alongside project involvements, Kathryn sees her most precious achievements as helping her team learn, watching them grow and get promoted internally.
